Speaker Berri receives from Regie recommendations of First National Conference Against Illicit Trade
House Speaker Nabih Berri received on Monday in Ain El-Tineh a delegation from the Regie Libanaise Des Tabacs et Tombacs comprised from its Director General Engineer Nassif Seklaoui, Engineer Georges Hobeika, Engineer Mazen Abboud and Doctor Issam Salman.
The delegation provided Speaker Berri with the recommendations issued following the First National Conference Against Illicit Trade that was organized by Regie on 28 April and attended by local, regional and international figures and that focused on setting a national plan to control this illicit trade.
During the meeting, Speaker Berri praised the role of Regie and this big step that it had taken, and vowed to support the implementation of these recommendations.
Following the meeting, Eng. Seklaoui said: “We were honoured to meet Speaker Berri and we gave him these recommendations that constitute an executive work plan that we should all cooperate to implement especially when it comes to closing the illicit trade passages in order to prevent the smuggling of tobacco and non-tobacco products because this phenomenon leads to losses worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the national economy.”
“Speaker Berri has always been and will always be a supporter for the tobacco sector in Lebanon for what it brings from good to the national economy and he promised us that after the formation of the cabinet this issue will be tackled in order to implement the plan that we agreed on with the Customs, Financial Prosecution, Minister of Economy, Director General of Internal Security Forces and the General Directorate of Finance.”
