Within its continuous efforts to encounter smuggling, the Regie has announced that it had seized around 20 tons of smuggled and counterfeit tobacco products during 2021.
The Regie has organized a visit to the warehouse of confiscated products in order to reveal to the media samples of smuggled and counterfeit tobacco products that the anti-smuggling department has recently confiscated, among which large amount of e-cigarettes and a plant of counterfeit tobacco and Moassal.
During the visit, the Regie’s Head of Anti-Smuggling Department, Mr. Mohamad Daher, expressed that the anti-smuggling corps had “conducted during the past year several raids all over the Lebanese territories”, resulting in “more than 150 confiscation reports”, although the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the difficult conditions.”
He has noted that the confiscated quantities “had reached around 20 tons between manufactured tobacco products, Moassal tobacco, tombac, cigars, and e-cigarettes, all of which had been smuggled, in addition to large amounts of counterfeit and forged products, and several plants of counterfeiting Moassal”. Concerning the value of the confiscated products, it has reached “more than two billion Lebanese pounds”, according to Daher.
He added that “many transportation vehicles had been seized until the payment of due fines”, whereas the drafted reports had been communicated to the competent jurisdiction.
