To a fair mechanism enabling farmers to face the production high cost
The Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri called, during his meeting on Friday, with the delegation of the Regie, to adopt a mechanism for purchasing tobacco crops that considers "fairness toward farmers".
Speaker Berri was briefed by the delegation, which included the Regie’s President and Director General Eng. Nassif Seklaoui, and Board members Eng. Georges Hobeika, Dr. Issam Salman, and Eng. Mazen Abboud, about the Regie’s achievements, especially on the industrial level, and the preparations for purchasing the season’s tobacco crops from farmers.
In the presence of the delegation, Berri stressed the need to devise a mechanism that "takes into account fairness toward farmers, which enables them to face the challenges resulting from fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate and the high cost of production."
