A delegation of tobacco farmers in Turkey to brief on the industry’s latest technologies
A delegation of Regie personnel and Lebanese tobacco farmers concluded a visit to Izmir, Turkey, where they get acquainted with the latest world tobacco cultivation techniques and services.
The visit was organized in cooperation with Philip Morris, within the agreement signed between the Regie and the company in order to enable farmers. The delegation included 11 farmers from different Lebanese regions, 12 Regie's staff members, as well as engineers Hassan Hammadi and Waseem Toros from the Regie.
The delegation visited Alliance One and Ozege, getting acquainted with farming activities suitable for field types and planting tobacco seeds in Phillip Morris' floating system. As well, the delegation visited the sorting plant in order to explore its mechanism.
The delegation participated in lectures and seminars organized by the host companies to speak about their relationship with farmers, the need to adhere to public safety standards, and comply with the provisions of the ALP program which contains 7 basic principles focusing on child labor, income and working hours, fair treatment, forced labor, security, freedom of association, and respecting the Law.
