History

History
Lebanon has a long history of tobacco and tunbac production, starting in the late 1950's and continuing to this day. The administration of this important industry has changed over the years, developing and adapting as the political situation within Lebanon changed.

The following section outlines the history of the tobacco production in Lebanon and the development of regulatory bodies.

Seklaoui was appointed Chairman of the committee and General Manager of The Lebanese Tobacco and Tunbac Monopoly Department (Regie).

Cancellation of the franchise and management of the monopoly directly by the Lebanese State

Extension of the franchise granted to the company operating the Monopoly

Separation of the joint monopoly between Syria and Lebanon and recovery of the franchise by the Lebanese State

Establishment of the Monopoly system and assigning its management to the “Société Anonyme de Régie Co-Intéressée Libano-Syrienne des Tabacs et Tombacs”
